Carlos Sainz’s Ferrari Fandom Undermines His Williams Future

Carlos Sainz committed to root for Ferrari in the world championship race while driving for Williams, but he made no mention of Lewis Hamilton, who will replace him in the team. Before the 2024 F1 season, Ferrari confirmed the hiring of Lewis Hamilton, who will join in 2025. Carlos Sainz’s final season with the squad was 2024. The Spaniard has won four races and finished 27 on the podium. During his last season with them, he won two races in Australia and Mexico. Carlos Sainz gave a farewell speech to the Ferrari squad at the hospitality center after the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix. He applauded them by saying that he feels the Italian giants are ready to win a drivers’ and a constructors’ championship will take place next year. 

Carlos Sainz proudly stated that he would support the team even when driving for Williams. He underlined his desire for both the squad and Charles Leclerc to win titles in the future. Carlos Sainz shared his sentiments at being replaced by Lewis Hamilton in his final race with Ferrari. During an interview on the Beyond the Grid podcast, Sainz expressed his initial frustration with the decision. 

Ferrari’s Former Star Still Supports

But later realised why Lewis Hamilton was chosen to succeed him. He said he understood and moved on because a seven-time world champion took his spot. He commended Hamilton for being one of the best in the sport. Carlos said, “For me, you are ready to win a WCC. You are a very strong team and this year you have shown you are all ready to win the 2025 WCC.”

“I will cheer for you from Williams because I would like to see Charles and you World Champions.” Carlos Sainz had his first taste of the Williams FW46 following the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix. He drove the car in a post-season test at Yas Marina Circuit.
