Former India World Cup winners turned to villains for off-the-field behaviour

Yuvraj Singh and Harbhajan Singh have been involved in a controversy. The two legendary India cricketers took to social media to make a hilarious attempt at recreating actor Vicky Kaushal’s viral dance step from the song ‘Tauba Tauba’. This was done after they defeated Pakistan Champions in the World Championship of Legends 2024 (WCL 2024). Yuvi was the captain of the side that won the trophy at Edgbaston.

But there was a twist during the dance. The former World Cup winners instead of dancing, limped with the viral song’s beats. This was done to showcase the intensity of the tournament, which took a physical toll on their bodies. But the dance video of the cricketers did not go well with Indian para-swimmer Shams Aalam. The latter believe that the cricketers shamed the disabled community for their actions after the final win.

Aalam called out ‘disgusting and insensitive behaviour’ towards the 1.2 billion disabled people across the world. He said, “Behavior is disgusting & insensitive. As Star celebrity cricket players have a responsibility to set a positive example. but mimicking the movements of individuals with disabilities, using derogatory gestures & making fun of their physical limitations. Mocking disabilities is not just a joke – it is a form of discrimination. It is time for them to apologize for their actions.”

Will the nation turn the India cricketers into villains?

Replying to that the off-spinner “Harbhajan, Yuvraj and other respected team members. We understand that body pain after events or practice but the way you guys are expressing it on social media is making fun of disabled community which is not acceptable. I know my comments will not affect you and your team members but imagine if something happens like this with one of your close one. Will you still express your pain in this way? We all respect you guys. Hopefully, you guys will understand and act accordingly.”

To turn the heroes into villains without knowing the facts is not acceptable. They have not intended to hurt any kind of people. They did it for fun and it shall be looked at as a funny video. There must not be any controversies regarding this small matter. The players must be respected and not bashed for their deeds that they have not done intentionally.
