East Bengal’s Impressive Comback Is The Calm Before The Storm

East Bengal FC defeated Jamshedpur FC by a single goal at the Salt Lake Stadium on Saturday. They posted consecutive wins at home for the first time in the Indian Super League (ISL). Dimitrios Diamantakos scored the sole goal of the game around the hour mark to ensure the full quota of points. East Bengal, which defeated Punjab FC 4-2 in the previous match. They moved up to 10th in the 13-team league.

As of the standings the Red and Gold Brigade is with 13 points from 12 games, while Jamshedpur FC remained in seventh with 18 from 11. The opening session was exciting till the finish when East Bengal found its groove and made some nice incursions. In the 27th minute, Cleiton Silva set up Nandhakumar Sekar unmarked inside the box, and the hosts nearly scored. 

The East Bengal winger paused for a while, allowing Jamshedpur goalkeeper Albino Gomes to close in and save. Jamshedpur FC, on the other side, was poor at creating and finishing chances. East Bengal’s continuous pressure Genuine chances were squandered in the first half, which could have clinched the game. Oscar Bruzon since taking on the charge fully the side has lost just one game and won 6 and drew the other two in all competitions.

Vishnu worked well with Nandhakumar, who played on the right wing, to mobilise the flanks. Jamshedpur FC poured bodies forward in quest of an equaliser in the closing quarter of the game, but Bruzon’s men maintained their ground admirably. East Bengal FC will play its final game of the 2024 season on December 28 against Hyderabad FC.
