Tottenham Have They Lost Their Identity In Modern Football

Tottenham Hotspur have broken an unwanted record that had stood for more than a century. Leicester City defeated the North London club, adding to their suffering this season. Spurs took the lead in the 33rd minute as Richarlison scored from close range. However, just five minutes after the resumption, Ange Postcoglou’s team was trailing. Jamie Vardy equalised before Bilal El Khannouss curled home the winner.

Spurs have not conceded twice in the first five minutes of a second-half Premier League encounter since November 1987, against Liverpool. The Lilywhites are 15th in the Premier League league, having collected only 24 points from 23 games – a total they achieved during the first ten games of the season following Ange Postecoglou’s arrival. Ipswich Town is the only other team in the bottom five that has not changed managers.

The outcome was the first time Spurs had been defeated by a team on such a run since 1912, 113 years earlier. Notts County, an East Midlands club, defeated them in the same way that Leicester did. The club has not won any of its previous seven league games, losing six and drawing only one. This is the club’s longest winless skid in the Premier League since the nine-game drought from May to October 2008.

Transfer Market Neglect Leaves Club Exposed

This is due to the credit Kieran McKenna has built up after three promotions. N17’s difficulties, however, extend beyond the man in the dugout. Postecoglou is not blameless, but he is not the primary reason Tottenham are contemplating the second tier. Postecoglou guided Spurs to a solid fifth-place finish, just two points behind Aston Villa in the Champions League standings. There were flashes of hope for the coming era.

However, like Conte, the Australian was only allowed to start one player, as well as three adolescents, and Timo Werner on loan for another season. The team required surgery even before the injury issue that has hampered their current season. Spurs’ next match comes at home against Elfsborg in the Europa League. The league schedule does not get much easier, with trips to Brentford and Aston Villa.
