After the coup in Bangladesh, Farooq Ahmed was elected as the president of the Bangladesh Cricket Board. Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) President Najmul Hasan has resigned from his post. Now the board has got a new chairman. Former cricketer Farooq Ahmed was elected as the new chairman in the board meeting held in Dhaka on Wednesday.
This is not the first time that Farooq has held a position on the Bangladesh Cricket Board. Earlier, he was the chief selector of the team twice. First from 2003 to 2007 and then from 2013 to 2016, Farooq Ahmed held the charge of Chief Selector. However, during the second term as Chief Selector, Farooq Ahmed resigned midway as he did not agree with the expansion of the selection committee.
Shakib Al Hasan, Mushfiqur Rahim, and Tamim Iqbal made their Bangladesh debuts in the chief selector’s first tenure. Farooq Ahmed played 7 ODIs between 1988 and 1999. He made his international debut against Pakistan. He scored 105 runs in 7 ODI innings, including 1 half-century. Apart from this, he played 5 first-class matches in which he scored 258 runs in 8 innings. He scored 1 half-century during this period.
