English Arrogance falls flat in Europe

Rival fans are reveling in Arsenal’s downfall. Their defeat against Bayern resulted in their elimination from Europe. Arsenal has become comedic relief at this point. Before their leg in Germany Gunners’ fans proclaimed themselves kings of Europe. They were so (over) confident in their abilities that they wanted to play Madrid. They couldn’t even get past the worst Bayern team in decades. Arsenal and City’s exit from the UCL is a prime example of English arrogance.

European Embarrassment

English fans often herald their league as the best in the world. But is that so? Since the turn of the century, there have only been 6 English European Champions. Premier League teams have a history of getting trounced in Europe. Liverpool were run ragged by Real Madrid at Anfield last season. Arsenal get battered by Bayern every time they are in the UCL. Manchester United were embarrassed by Copenhagen. How is the Premier League the best league in the world when PL teams get humiliated in Europe almost every year?

Overhyped and Underperforming

The Premier League is the richest. It has the most money. The most viewership. They also have the highest amount of terrible talk shows centered around it. All of these factors lead to a high concentration of talent in England. However, British fans often need to remember that other countries have good players, managers, and teams. Clowns like Jamie Carragher further propel the arrogance of English fans. British Pundits have this terrible knack for overrating their own English players. According to them, Bukayo Saka is the next coming of Pele, and Kobbie Mainoo is the next Zinedine Zidane.

International Joke

This ego has led to humiliation for the English internationally. Despite inventing the modern game of football. They’ve only won one major international honor. Even that World Cup was plagued with controversy. This unearned arrogance that characterizes the English has led to taunts and jeers every time they play against their European rivals. Even England’s Golden Generation succumbed to this extra hype and never achieved anything substantial.

English Eurotrip

With the Euros coming up this summer, The British have become bolder than ever. With the growing popularity of the Premier League and the rise of Jude Bellingham and Harry Kane in foreign leagues. England firmly believe in their national side. However, victory isn’t guaranteed. The English may taste defeat on German soil like they did in 2006. English fans must be careful and curb their arrogance unless they want to be tagged as an international embarrassment once more.
