Veteran journalist and former senior assistant editor of ‘Maharashtra Times’ Pramod Kashinath Mane (age 61) passed away on Monday (April 8) night at a private hospital in Hyderabad after a prolonged illness. His body will be cremated at Pratapnagar crematorium on Wednesday, April 10 at 8 am. The funeral procession will leave from Alankar Housing Society in Vidyanagar in the morning. He is survived by his mother, father, wife, son, brother, brother-in-law, sister and nephew.
Veteran journalist Pramod Mane, famous for his reporting on sports, politics and social causes, passed away due to jaundice. He was being treated in the hospital for a few days. From ‘Dainik Marathwada’ to ‘Maharashtra Times’ he had an impressive career in the print media. He started journalism in 1985 as a sports reporter from ‘Marathwada’ newspaper. He worked in this newspaper for a long time. He worked as a divisional correspondent for ‘City Channel’ and ‘Tara Marathi’. Mane did remarkable work as the head of the Marathwada edition of ‘Loksatta’. From 2011 to 2021, he served as Senior Assistant Editor of the Marathwada edition of ‘Maharashtra Times’. His occasional writings on various events in Marathwada were particularly popular. Mane has written extensively on regional issues in ‘Marathwadi Mulkhatoon’. Mane, who has immense public relations and eloquence, worked in journalism for 32 years. After retirement, he chose the path of digital journalism. Through the e-paper ‘Maharashtra Sports’ he had connected readers across the state. Mane took lessons in sports journalism under the guidance of famous sports journalist V V Karmarkar. While writing on the sports affairs of Marathwada, he helped many athletes. His writing style was touching to the readers. He was the Chairman of the School Committee of Saraswati Bhuvan Prashala and served on the Board of Directors of Subhu Shikshan Sansthan.
Emphasis on organizational function
Not limited to journalism, Pramod Mane emphasized on organizational work. He was at the forefront of helping sports organizations, organizing sports festivals, and promoting cultural events. He had helped various organizations in Marathwada including Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar. He was famous as a sportsman, social worker, and mentor of political workers.
