Pune’s Dr Sharvari Inamdar bagged a double gold medal in the 57kg M1 women’s category. She also won the prestigious title of ‘Best Lifter’ i.e. ‘Strong Woman of Commonwealth’ called Champion of Champions. The Commonwealth Powerlifting Bench Press Championships were held in Sun City, South Africa. More than 200 players from England, Australia, Scotland, Sri Lanka, Wales, New Zealand, Canada, South Africa, and Sri Lanka participated in this tournament.
Dr. Sharvari Inamdar lifted 77.5 kg in the classic category and 97.5 kg in the equipped category. He took up the big challenge of playing weight in the same morning and then again in the evening on the same day. After winning both the World Championships in Mongolia. He won the Asian Championship in Malaysia and now the Commonwealth Championship in South Africa.
Supriya Pandurang Supekar, a disciple of Dr Sharwari Inamdar, won a silver medal in the 52 kg junior women’s category. She lifted 50 kg in the classic category in a tight competition. These guru-disciples are widely appreciated for the success of the Commonwealth tournament. Both train at the Code Breaker Gym in Bibwewadi. He has been guided by Dr Vaibhav Inamdar, Adv Ravindra Kumar Yadav, and Sanjay Sardesai.
