Dinesh Karthik, the skilled wicket-keeper batsman for the RCB team, has showcased exceptional batting prowess throughout this IPL season. Given his remarkable form, speculations arose regarding his potential selection for the upcoming T20 World Cup cricket tournament representing India. Karthik has broken his silence on this matter, expressing his aspiration to don the Indian jersey in the World Championship.
Having previously participated in the 2022 T20 World Cup, Karthik is poised to turn 39 by the time the T20 World Cup commences in America and the West Indies immediately following the current IPL season. Following the 2022 T20 World Cup, Karthik hadn’t featured in any international tournaments for India, notably absent from the ODI World Cup held in India last year. Before making his return to the field in the current IPL season, Karthik had been engaged in commentary duties.
Outstanding Performance as a Finisher Karthik’s bat has been ablaze this season, emerging as a reliable finisher for RCB, particularly during challenging moments, elevating his batting to unprecedented levels. Sporting a strike rate exceeding 205, Karthik stands as RCB’s second-highest run-scorer after Virat Kohli (361) and captain Faf du Plessis (232), having amassed 226 runs thus far.
Ahead of the match against KKR, Karthik expressed, “It would be a tremendous honour for me to represent India in the T20 World Cup at this stage of my career. I eagerly anticipate the opportunity. Representing India in this T20 World Cup would be the pinnacle of my career. However, I believe there are three highly capable individuals entrusted with making this decision. Rahul Dravid, Rohit Sharma, and Ajit Agarkar will determine the optimal Indian squad for the World Cup. I fully support their judgment. Regardless, I assure you that I am fully prepared and will strive to earn my place in the T20 World Cup squad.”
