Dinesh Karthik Calls Time on His Illustrious Playing Career

India’s veteran wicketkeeper-batsman Dinesh Karthik has officially retired from professional cricket, marking the end of a distinguished career that spanned over two decades.

Karthik announced on social media, expressing his gratitude and reflecting on his journey. “After much contemplation, I have decided to retire from playing representative cricket,” Karthik stated. “I officially announce my retirement and look forward to the new challenges that lie ahead.”

In his heartfelt message, Karthik extended his appreciation to those who supported him throughout his career. “I want to thank all my coaches, captains, selectors, teammates, and support staff who made this long journey pleasant and enjoyable. Among the millions who play cricket in our country, I consider myself incredibly fortunate to have represented the nation and earned the goodwill of many fans and friends.”

Karthik also acknowledged the unwavering support of his family. “My parents have been my pillars of strength, and I wouldn’t be where I am without their blessings. I owe a great deal to my wife, Dipika (Pallikal), who, despite her own professional sports career, often put it on hold to walk this journey with me. To all the fans and followers of our great game, a massive thank you! Cricket and cricketers wouldn’t be the same without your support and good wishes.”

Over his career, Karthik played 180 matches for India across all formats, most recently participating in the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2022. He also played a crucial role in the Royal Challengers Bangalore’s run to the playoffs in the 2024 edition of the Indian Premier League.

Karthik debuted for India in September 2004 in ODIs and soon after made his Test debut. He was a member of the Indian squad in the inaugural ICC Men’s T20 World Cup in 2007 and played in the latest edition in 2022.
