MS Dhoni‘s explosive batting in this year’s IPL has become the talk of the town. Despite speculation that this could be Dhoni’s last IPL season, CSK batting coach Michael Hussey has sparked a new debate by suggesting Dhoni could continue playing for another two years.
Dhoni, who has led the Chennai Super Kings to five IPL titles, will turn 43 in July. His performance in this year’s IPL, marked by powerful sixes and fours, indicates that he still has plenty of cricket left in him. Speaking on ESPN’s ‘Around the Wicket’ program, Michael Hussey remarked that Dhoni is currently batting well and remains in excellent form throughout the season. “He arrives early for camp and practices diligently,” Hussey added.
Dhoni’s Knee Surgery
In the current IPL season, Dhoni has scored 136 runs, despite batting lower down the order and getting fewer balls to play. Hussey noted, “We’ve managed his workload effectively. He underwent knee surgery after last season and has been managing the competition well since the early stages of this season. Hopefully, he will continue to play for another two years, though the final decision rests with him. I don’t expect any immediate announcements.”
Relinquished Captaincy
Dhoni had stepped down from captaincy, which was a surprising move for many. Michael Hussey recalled, “Dhoni mentioned he wouldn’t attend the captain’s meeting before the tournament, leaving us all wondering what was happening. He then informed us that Ruturaj would take over as captain. Initially, it was a shock, but we quickly realized that Ruturaj was the right choice.”
