Devendra Jhajharia Elected as President of the Indian Paralympic Committee

Devendra Jhajharia has been elected as the President of the Indian Paralympic Committee. Immediately after being elected as President, Jhajharia announced his plan of action.

42-year-old Devendra Jhajharia, who won three medals including two gold and one silver in the Paralympics, has been elected as the president of the Indian Paralympics, the apex body. He took over from Paralympic silver medalist Deepa Malik.

The Sports Ministry had suspended the PCI’s official recognition in February this year. Because there was a delay in conducting the elections after the expiry of the tenure of the Executive Committee of CCI and the guidelines were not followed by the PCI.

The Sports Ministry had said that the PCI’s decision to hold the election on March 28 was deliberate and had no valid reason. After the suspension, PCI announced that elections will be held on March 9 in New Delhi. Last Tuesday, the sports ministry immediately lifted the Paralympic Committee of India (PCI) suspension.

After becoming the president of the Paralympic Committee, Devendra Jhajharia said, ‘We are going to work at the grassroots level. Various activities will be undertaken for this. There are a total of 700 districts in all the states and we need to work in them at the grassroots level. We will select the most talented players and give them an opportunity to play at the state level and then at the national level. After this, he will represent the country on the world stage. Our target is more than 30 medals in the upcoming Paralympics.’
