The National Sub-Junior Chess Championship concluded at Anubhuti Residential School, with Daksh Goyal and Mritika Mallik emerging as champions in the boys’ and girls’ categories, respectively. Goyal secured the title with eight and a half points, while Gujarat’s Jihan Shah claimed the runner-up spot. In the girls’ category, Mallik dominated with nine points, followed by Sneha Haldar as the runner-up.
International Master Anup Deshmukh, in a motivational address, emphasized the essence of sportsmanship and resilience in handling victories and defeats. He commended the tournament’s organization, praising the unique concept of playing chess amidst nature.
Chief Arbiter Devashish Barua highlighted the successful conduct of the competition, praising the enthusiasm and discipline of the participants. Parents expressed appreciation for the serene environment, with a representative from Goa acknowledging the peace of mind offered by the event.
The prize distribution ceremony recognized umpires, awarded medals to contestants, and distributed cash prizes. Ashok Bhau Jain, Farooq Shaikh, Niranjan Godbole, and Atul Jain, among others, graced the closing ceremony.
