Have the Delhi Capitals blundered massively? Not many teams would have the guts to let go of Rishabh Pant who is on fire currently. But DC has done just that. Some would suggest that DC have made smart decisions in retaining Axar Patel, Kuldeep Yadav, Tristan Stubbs and Abhishek Porel. But they could have easily retained Rishabh Pant if they wanted to. But they did not. So how will they fare in the upcoming IPL 2025 Mega Auction with so much on the line?
Especially considering they have never won the IPL. The closest they came was the IPL Final but still couldn’t lift the coveted trophy. One positive for DC is that they have managed to keep a hold of both their first-choice spinners Axar Patel and Kuldeep Yadav. In India, where more often than not Spin Is King, it’s not a bad choice to have two top-quality spinners on the side. But aside from that, they lack in almost every aspect. So here are 5 players that DC will go for in the IPL 2025 Mega Auction to finally make History in the IPL.
1. Mitchell Starc
Mitchell Starc made history in the 2024 IPL Auction becoming the most expensive player ever. With many teams eyeing for Quality pace options, Mitchell Starc will be on the radar of almost every other team. But DC need him more than anyone else. With the relatively young squad at their disposal, Starc’s experience will come in handy.
He is a guaranteed wicket-taker in all phases of a T20 innings and the kind of pace and swing he generates is deadly for any opposition to face.
2. Aiden Markram
DC will be looking for a captaincy candidate post-Rishabh Pant, and Aiden Markram would fit the bill perfectly. A top-order batsman who can play any sort of role in the batting order is always a positive in a T20I game. Moreover, under his captaincy, young players around him would flourish even more.
The right-handed batsman is also relatively young and will be a great long-term investment for the Delhi Capitals.
3. Jake Fraser-McGurk
The young lad from Australia was on fire in the short time he opened for DC last season. He was striking at upwards of 200+ many a time helping DC post massive totals and tearing through the opposition’s opening bowlers. Partnering up with Abhishek Porel at the top of the order, JFM can cause massive havoc for the opposition giving Porel the time to play his game.
The Aussie youngster will moreover prove to be a great asset in the long run for DC. The RTM option is applicable to the 22-year-old and DC would use it no matter what.
4. Mukesh Kumar
The 2nd RTM option DC has, should be used for Mukesh Kumar. The right-arm pacer has been picking up wickets at a rapid pace in the domestic leagues and is too good to let go. With him and Mitchell Starc operating at either end, the opposition batters will find it very difficult to get off the mark.
Moreover, he will be a relatively cheap option to use RTM on at the IPL Auction with many Indian Pacers on the radar.
5. Nitish Rana
Nobody expected KKR to not pick up Nitish Rana in their retention list ahead of the 2025 IPL Mega Auction. But DC would definitely feel happy because he is exactly the kind of player they need in that middle order to provide them with even more stability.
Rana can bat at any position and with Aiden Markram also in the DC side, one can expect some great partnerships between the two which can decimate the hopes and dreams of the opposition.
