Daniil Medvedev Mental Illness Is Hindering His Career

Daniil Medvedev has once again started poorly in another tennis competition. The Russian lost his head on Sunday as he fell in straight sets 4-6, 3-6 to Taylor Fritz in the opening match of this year’s ATP Finals. He seemed to lose the plot when he was broken in the second set. He is in the same Ilie Nastase Group as Jannik Sinner. It will be a tough competition in the latter half.

The 2020 champion, did something bizarre after the game. Medvedev broke his racket after losing a set. Things got worse when Fritz broke serve in the second set, taking a 4-2 lead. He received a penalty point for tossing his racket at a courtside microphone, and during game seven of the second set, he clutched a replacement racket by the head while waiting for Fritz’s serve.

His antics during the event shocked the audience. The disapproving audience whistled in response to his actions. His American opponent, could not help but laugh at what he saw. Daniil Medvedev was frustrated, as the world No. 4 repeatedly tossed his racket in the air. Then, he amusingly turned his racket upside down and tried to return a point. This was a shocking yet funny thing to happen.

Daniil Medvedev is losing his edge

Has Daniil Medvedev’s focus faded? After the win Taylor Frtiz said, I mean, I was just laughing. I think he’s really funny, to be honest. Even when he’s not playing me, he always cracks me up. He’s pretty funny. I was laughing more in between the points when he was, like, tossing the racket up. It’s just him. Medvedev is no new to losing his cool during matches.

In October, he was caught in a furious altercation with an umpire at the Shanghai Masters. Daniil Medvedev returns to action on November 13, facing Jannik Sinner. This match will be a crucial one for both, especially for the Russian star to stay in the competition and qualify for the knockout rounds of the ATP Finals. Sinner will be looking to destroy the confidence of the World No.4.
