India dominated the first Test against Australia at the Optus Stadium in Perth, thrashing the hosts by a record 295 runs. Yashasvi Jaiswal’s brilliant 161 in the second innings, the best by an Indian opener on Australian soil, was a standout performance. However, an unexpected exchange between Jaiswal and Mitchell Starc on Day 2 was interesting. In the first test match in Perth Jaiswal had sledged Starc saying “You’re bowling too slow.”
The Aussie pacer took his revenge in the 2nd Test match of the series. Starc gave Australia a dream start by dismissing India opener Yashasvi Jaiswal for a platinum duck a dismissal on Friday’s first ball of the day-night Test at the Adelaide Oval. The buildup was there. The excitement was apparent and Starc triumphed over jitters on the opening pitch for the second time in his career.
It was full and swinging, on another day, Jaiswal would have stood still and flicked the ball off his pads for a boundary. But on Friday, he made the mistake of anticipating an outswinger. In Yashasvi Jaiswal’s case, the ball landed on his pads rather than shaking the leg stump. However, the outcome was no different. Mitchell Starc is having the day of the match as he has picked up three wickets in the game.
India crumbles against Starc
He had a brief chat with opening partner KL Rahul, but the seasoned batsman did the right thing by advising the youngster to keep going rather than waste the review. There was no way he was going to modify the decision. It pitched in line, struck in line, and collided with the leg stump. India made three changes to its XI. Captain Rohit, Shubman Gill, and Ravichandran Ashwin.
They were replaced by Devdutt Padikkal, Dhruv Jurel, and Washington Sundar. India is in deep trouble from 69/1 to 82/4. The home side came back in the game right before lunch with three quick wickets. Captain Rohit and Rishabh Pant are there in the crease with one over left before lunch.
