India Risks Team Harmony If Gill Returns To No.3 Role In Adelaide

India has already taken a 1-0 lead in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy against Australia. The Men in Blue against the odds have dominated the Kangaroos at the Optus Stadium, Perth. They became the first visiting team to beat the Aussies at Perth. Jasprit Bumrah’s side showcased a brilliant comeback after being bowled out for just 150 runs in the first innings. They won the game by 295 runs despite being on the back foot. 

Ahead of the 2nd test at the Adelaide Oval, the Indian side has been featuring in the warm-up game against the Prime Minister’s XI at Canberra. In a positive development ahead of the pink-ball, day-night Test at Adelaide Oval against Australia, young Indian batting sensation Shubman Gill was seen batting in nets at Canberra. The elegant batter has been looked in good touch in nets. He missed the first test due to a thumb injury. 

With captain Rohit Sharma also back in the side, India will have to undergo one definite change the Mumbai-born batter will be back in the side for Devdutt Padikkal. However, Gill’s return remains doubtful though he has looked good in the nets. There were positive signs. Gill seemed to handle his bat well, but his defense looked solid. The Punjab-based batter will look to make a comeback in the side for the pink-ball match.

Shubman Gill should wait for his turn

Shubman Gill will automatically replace Dhruv Jurel in the side. But the former’s batting position is in question. KL Rahul looked in fine form in the first test while opening the batting for India. The Karnataka opener has once again proved the critics wrong by playing a masterful innings at Perth alongside Yashasvi Jaiswal. Rohit’s return will surely be back in the opening spot with the Southpaw. 

If Rahul bats at No.3 for India Shubman Gill needs to go down the order at come at No.6. The re-shuffling of the batting order might cost the Men in Blue in the forthcoming match, as the openers in the first test looked rock solid in the second innings, stitching a 201 run partnership for the first wicket. The coach and captain will have to take a big call on where should Gill and Rahul bat.
