Following the dismal tour of Australia, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) became increasingly concerned. He also served as an assistant coach with the now-defunct Gujarat Lions during the Indian Premier League. He has been the batting coach for India A for the past four years; the tour of Australia was his most recent duty. In August 2023, he served as the temporary head coach of the Indian side, captained by Jasprit Bumrah, during the Twenty20 International series in Ireland.
