COVID Crashes the Party Early at the 2024 Paris Olympics

Few days are left for the start of the Paris Olympics. But the threat of COVID has arisen in this edition of the Summer Games as well. Two female players of the Australian contingent have been found COVID-positive.

The water polo player was isolated after testing positive. The 2020 Tokyo Olympics was postponed by a year due to COVID-19. The Paris Olympics will start on July 26. Two players from Australia have been found to be corona positive and there is a big danger.

Australia’s Olympic team chief Anna Meyers said, “Fellow athletes will wear masks and follow social distancing rules. All his companions were also tested. The player had many symptoms and the good thing was that we had our own testing equipment so that the diagnosis could be made.”

Another Australian athlete who was in close contact with him has also tested positive for COVID-19, the Australian Olympic Committee said. But, no other player in the country’s team has tested positive for COVID. The COVID-positive athlete did not practice with her teammates on Tuesday afternoon. However, another player was healthy enough to participate. The names of both have not been disclosed.

At the same time, the French government and the World Health Organization said there has been a slight increase in COVID cases in the country. Health Minister Frédéric Valleteaux said there was no major risk. “Of course, COVID is here, but it’s still a far cry from what we saw in 2020, 2021, 2022,” he said.
