Magnus Carlsen’s Refusal To Gukesh Is A Sign Of Declining Confidence

Gukesh Dommaraju may have become the world’s youngest champion after defeating Ding Liren, but Magnus Carlsen is not interested in challenging the 18-year-old Indian for the title.  After Viswanathan Anand, India has found its second world chess champion. Gukesh, who made history by winning the 14th game against Chinese legend Ding Liren, got crores of rupees in prize money. At the age of 18, Gukesh earned 20 crores in INR.

During the World Chess Championship in Singapore, he made more than 11 crore INR in just 17 days. D Gukesh defeated Chinese veteran Ding Liren in the 14th and final game. Gukesh made history by winning the match 7.5-6.5. He played the last game with black pieces. Gukesh also surpassed the record of Russian veteran Garry Kasparov, who won the World Championship at 22.

Gukesh, a Chennai resident, trains at the academy of five-time world champion Viswanathan Anand. Magnus did, however, congratulate Gukesh on his outstanding performance against Ding Liren at the World Chess Championship. He also stated that Gukesh was always his choice to win the contest. Magnus Carlsen was also quick to commend China’s Ding Liren for his performance during the encounter against Gukesh.

D Gukesh Intimidates Carlsen

Gukesh had captivated everyone’s attention by winning the eight-man Candidates tournament in Toronto, becoming the world championship’s youngest challenger to date. He won three major titles this year. Gukesh represented India in the Chess Olympiad in Budapest in September. India made history by capturing the Olympic gold medal for the first time. Carlsen said on the Take Take Take YouTube channel, “It’s not going to be me.”

“I mean, let’s talk about Gukesh and the match and so on. I’m not part of this circus anymore. Of course, this was a bit unexpected. A lot of us thought that Gukesh was the favourite to win the match, but this was a game that never really took off. Gukesh was fighting for the win. I think he was doing an excellent job to keep the game alive.”
