On the second day of the 7th Elite Women’s National Boxing Championships at the GBU Indoor Stadium in Greater Noida, world champion Saweety Boora and two-time Asian Championships gold medallist Pooja Rani showcased their skills, securing contrasting victories to advance to the round-of-16.
Saweety Boora faced a formidable challenge from Alfiya of Railway Sports Promotion Board (RSPB) in the 81kg category, ultimately triumphing with a 4-1 score. Meanwhile, Tokyo Olympian Pooja Rani dominated her 75kg bout against Renu of Nagaland, securing a commanding 5-0 victory.
Haryana’s Manisha Moun (60kg) and Saneh (70kg), both medallists in the 2022 World Championships, joined Saweety and Pooja in advancing to the Last-16 stage with victories in their respective categories.
Notably, Nupur of RSPB showcased swift and aggressive boxing in her 81+kg round-of-16 match against Himanshi Antil of Delhi, securing a Referee Stopping the Contest (RSC) victory in the first round. Nupur is set to face Monica Sahun of Uttarakhand in the quarter-finals.
Uttar Pradesh boxers also left their mark on the second day, with Aprajita Mani (57kg) and Rinky Sharma (63kg) claiming wins over opponents from Maharashtra and Tamil Nadu. Rekha (66kg) and Deepika (75kg) secured Referee Stopping the Contest (RSC) wins against Pooja Biswas of Telangana and Sunita Jena of Odisha.
The ongoing tournament, organized by the Boxing Federation of India, boasts participation from over 300 boxers across 12 categories. The finals are scheduled for Wednesday.
