Can Vinicius Jr Lead Brazil To Continental Glory?

Vinicius Jr can prove all the critics wrong this summer. He’s been Real Madrid’s talisman this year, scoring 25 goals and assisting 10 in all competitions. He’s won the Champions League and the Spanish League title in spectacular fashion. Now, his greatest obstacle awaits him. He has to do what even Neymar couldn’t. Vinicius Jr must lead Brazil to Copa America glory. The 23-year-old has been the finest player in Europe this season. He’s moved with flair and a swagger the likes of we haven’t seen since Neymar’s heyday. The kid has the world at his feet. Despite this, he’s been disappointing with the national team. This summer, he can change that image and in doing so, eclipse his idol.

Vinicius Jr And The Weight Of A Nation

The Brazilian side this year is extremely interesting. The greats have faded and fizzled away and a new generation has arisen. It is a new-look team for the Seleção. Critics have remarked that this Brazil team is lacklustre and inexperienced. Even Brazilian legend Ronaldinho came out and said he wouldn’t watch the national team this summer because of the lack of quality. This was apparently for some kind of marketing campaign, but the intent was clear, he wanted a reaction out of them, a reaction to all the doubts. Vinicius Jr is one of the leaders of this squad. He’s only got 3 goals for the national team so far. Despite his disappointing performances thus far, the Real Madrid man will be looking to light up the tournament. When the going gets tough, the tough get going. In the absence of Neymar, Vinicius must step up.

Seleção To Shock Doubters

The Copa America will be immensely tough this year. Argentina are perennial contender and the current world champion. Uruguay has seen a renaissance of late with Darwin Nunez leading the line. It will not be easy for Vini and Co to win the championship. All the odds are against them, for the first time in a lifetime, Brazil will be entering a tournament without being the favorites. These may be a blessing in disguise for the Seleção. The sweetest victory is one that isn’t expected. Can Vini win Brazil a Copa America and in doing so, win himself, The Ballon d’or?
