Building a 22-Man Squad from the Transfers in the Summer Transfer Window

The Summer Transfer Window for the season 2024/25 recently ended. And it would be safe to say that there were some big big moves which happened in clubs all around Europe. Some very big names which include the likes of Kylian Mbappe, Alvaro Morata, Matthijs De Ligt, Ilkay Gundogan, etc. switched their clubs in the Summer Transfer window. So let’s try and build a 22-man Squad capable of winning the UEFA Champions League from the players who made a move to a different club in the Summer Transfer Window.

Our squad will be named Transfer FC and the goal is to build a Starting XI with each player having a capable backup hence completing the 22-player squad requirement and also naming a head coach to take over the squad.

Transfer FC Goalkeepers

The first-choice keeper of the Transfer FC will be David De Gea. The Spanish international who hadn’t played professional football for over a year joined the Italian side Fiorentina earlier this season. In a recent UEFA Conference League qualifier, he saved a penalty to become Fiorentina’s saving grace. De Gea’s backup will be the former Real Madrid and Chelsea GK and De Gea’s international teammate, Kepa Arrizabalaga.

Transfer FC Defenders

Fullbacks

At Left Back, Arsenal’s Riccardo Calafiori will be best suited as a defensive fullback with the German international, Ian Maatsen as his backup. Both Left backs had an excellent Euros campaign which earned them big money moves in the transfer window. At Right Back, manning the full stretch of the pitch will be the attack-minded Joao Cancelo who will provide the perfect balance with Calafiori on the opposite side. The ManCity reject secured a move to Saudi following a loan season at Barcelona. His backup will be former Bayern Munich player Noussair Mazraoui.

Central Defenders

At the heart of the defence will be Manchester United’s new signing Matthijs De Ligt, a fast and solid rock at the back. His backup will be his very own United teammate the 18-year-old Leny Yoro. Accompanying the Dutchman will be the French-born Spanish centre-half Robin Le Normand who recently won the Euros with Spain. Le Normand’s backup will be Max Kilman, who secured a big money transfer to West Ham this season.

Transfer FC Midfielders

Central Defensive Midfielder

This one was close between three deserving candidates, but in the end, it was the Portuguese defensive midfielder Joao Palhinha who will be manning the all-important Pivot Position. Just like how he might spend a lot of time on the bench in real life, Manuel Ugarte will offer backup for the CDM position. The Uruguayan signed for Manchester United on deadline day.

Centre-Mid

Ilkay Gundogan will fill in at the Central Midfield position and also will be the Captain of Transfer FC. The Treble Winning captain of Manchester City recently made his trip back to England after a 1-year stay in Spain. He will be backed up by Mikel Merino who was a crucial part of Spain’s 2024 Euros winning journey.

Central Attacking Midfielder

Julian Alvarez will have to compensate a little and play out of position at Transfer FC to accommodate all the quality present in the front three spots and play at CAM. But this is nothing new for Alvarez as he had been doing the same at Man City. He will be backed up by FC Barcelona’s Dani Olmo.

Transfer FC Attackers

Left Wing

Possibly the greatest player in the world right now, Kylian Mbappe who finally made his dream move to Real Madrid will be manning the left flank. While his life at Madrid hasn’t exactly started well, we hope that he will be the pivotal figure for Transfer FC. His backup will be Federico Chiesa who recently secured a move to Liverpool.

Right Wing

Two Youngsters, Michael Olise and Savinho will be fighting for their spot on the Right Wing. Both have impressed as of late with Olise having a blockbuster Olympics campaign and Savhinho being one of Girona’s most important players last season at just 20 years of age.

Striker/CF

Alvaro Morata, the 2024 Euros-winning captain will play as the Striker in Transfer FC. A tall and dominating figure in the box, the team will surely benefit from crosses from Cancelo, Olise, Gundogan, etc finding the big guy in the box. Backing him up will be the 17-year-old prodigy Endrick who will be used as a super sub whenever the going gets tough.

Transfer FC Head Coach

There were two primary candidates to take over Transfer FC, Arne Slot and Hansi Flick. In the end, it came down to who had more experience. The Head Coach of Transfer FC will be Hansi Flick. The new Barcelona Head Coach has changed the way Barcelona play and evidence suggests that they are on the right track with 3/3 wins to start the season. We believe that with the German manager at the helm, Transfer FC is destined for success!
