At the 8th Elite Men’s National Boxing Championship, Shiva Thapa, the reigning Welterweight (60-65 kg) champion, defeated Enayat Khan 5-0 to start his title defense. Thapa set a powerful tone for his campaign. He is the youngest Indian boxer to qualify for the 2012 London Olympics. Sachin Siwach, a former World Youth Boxing Champion. He made his debut in the spotlight as well after defeating Akshay 5-0 for the Services Sports Control Board (SSCB).
In an exciting opening match on the second day, Rajasthan’s Devansh Solanki defeated Uttar Pradesh’s Vikas Singh. The former won via majority decision in the flyweight (47–50 kg) class. There will be exciting action throughout the day. After Ashutosh Yadav of Chhattisgarh defeated Akleem Khan of Gujarat in the same category with a strong Round 1 effort. Team SSCB’s triumphs in other categories further cemented their supremacy.
In the light middleweight, welterweight, cruiserweight, and heavyweight divisions, respectively, Hitesh Gulia, Deepak, Jugnoo, and Vishal all prevailed. Rajasthan also showed great form, as heavyweight Harsh Choudhary, cruiserweight Pushpendra Singh, and light middleweight Priyadarshi Singh Ashiya all defeated their opponents. The Boxing Federation of India (BFI) and the Uttar Pradesh Boxing Association are organising the week-long competition, which features almost 300 fighters representing state units throughout India.
Thapa and Siwach Enough to Deliver Global Success
They have been vying for dominance in various weight categories. Up to ten boxers from each team, representing their respective state units, compete in fights set up according to the World Boxing Technical & Competition Rules. Each round lasts three minutes, with one minute of rest in between. Throughout the championship, the scoring system is based on a 10-point minimum. As they pursue their third straight championship.
Team SSCB (Services), the two-time defending champions, remains a strong opponent. A member of the Indian team who competed in the 2023 Men’s World Boxing Championships and a silver medallist at the 2023 Strandja Memorial International Boxing Tournament, Govind Sahani began his campaign at the 8th Elite Men’s National Boxing Championship on Tuesday, Day 1 of the competition, with a decisive victory over Mohammad Aarif of Jammu & Kashmir.
