The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has taken a massive step towards the development of domestic cricket. On Monday, the board introduced prize money. For player-of-the-match and player-of-the-tournament award winners in all women’s and junior cricket competitions at the domestic level. It is a major step forward for the advancement of cricket in India. This will increase the competitive levels as well.
BCCI secretary Jay Shah announced in a post on social media. He said that the player of the match in the Vijay Hazare Trophy and Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy will be awarded prize money. Previously in April 2023, the board announced an increase in prize money for the domestic tournaments. The Ranji Trophy winners received a cash reward of INR 5 crore that year. Runners-up and losing semi-finalists received INR 3 crore and INR 1 crore respectively.
Last year the prize money for the Irani Cup too was doubled. With the winners getting INR 50 lakh instead of INR 25 lakh. The winners of the Duleep Trophy received INR 1 crore. While in the Vijay Hazare Trophy, the champions were awarded INR 1 crore. BCCI also introduced a Test cricket incentive scheme. This meant the cricketers that got a nod in the playing 11 in more than 50% of Tests in a season since 2022-23 will receive a financial incentive of Rs 30 lakh per game.
Jay Shah took a major step forward for junior and women’s cricket
BCCI secretary Jay Shah announced, “We are introducing prize money for the Player of the Match and Player of the Tournament in all Women’s and Junior Cricket tournaments under our Domestic Cricket Program. A heartfelt thank you to the Apex Council for their unwavering support in this endeavour. Together, we are fostering a more rewarding environment for our cricketers. Jai Hind.”
The BCCI announced a total of Rs 40 crore corpus for the scheme. It has been announced that the winners and runners-up of the Senior Women’s One Day trophy got INR 50 lakh and INR 25 lakh, respectively.
