The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has taken a significant step towards the promotion and development of the Women’s Premier League (WPL) by establishing an eight-member committee. Led by president Roger Binny, the committee aims to enhance the competitive landscape of WPL, with BCCI secretary Jay Shah serving as the convener.
In addition to Binny and Shah, the committee comprises key figures in Indian cricket, including Arun Dhumal (Indian Premier League President), Rajeev Shukla (BCCI Vice President), Ashish Shelar (BCCI Treasurer), Devjit Saikia (BCCI Joint Secretary), Madhumati Lele, and Prabhatej Bhatia. Their collective efforts will involve close collaboration with stakeholders, players, and sports enthusiasts.
The much-anticipated auction for the Women’s Premier League 2024 season is scheduled for December 9 in Mumbai. Among the registered players, only 30 will be selected in the auction, aligning with the squad limitations of the five franchises. Each franchise is mandated to spend Rs 17.65 crore during the auction.
While details about the commencement of the upcoming Women’s Premier League season are yet to be disclosed, the auction anticipation is high after the Mumbai Indians clinched victory in the inaugural WPL season, defeating Delhi Capitals.
The formation of the committee underscores BCCI’s commitment to elevating women’s cricket, promising an exciting future for the Women’s Premier League.
