BCCI Extends a Lifeline to Anshuman Gaikwad in His Battle Against Cancer

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has come forward to support former Indian cricket team coach and cricketer Anshuman Gaikwad, who is currently battling cancer. In a commendable move, the BCCI has decided to provide immediate financial assistance of one crore rupees for Gaikwad’s treatment.

Anshuman Gaikwad, aged 71, has been diagnosed with blood cancer, a severe and life-threatening condition. He had been undergoing treatment in London when the BCCI was informed about his situation. Acting swiftly, BCCI Secretary Jay Shah announced the provision of one crore rupees to aid in Gaikwad’s medical expenses. Shah also reached out to Gaikwad’s family to inquire about his health and to express the board’s support during this challenging time.

The plight of Anshuman Gaikwad came to light when former Indian cricket team captain Kapil Dev revealed his teammate’s battle with cancer. Kapil Dev highlighted the immense difficulties Gaikwad has been facing and appealed for assistance from the BCCI. Responding promptly to this call for help, the BCCI took the noble step of extending financial aid to ensure that Gaikwad receives the best possible treatment.

This act of generosity is not the first instance where the BCCI has stepped in to support former cricketers in need. Over the years, the BCCI has consistently shown its commitment to the well-being of the cricketing fraternity. For example, in 2019, the BCCI provided financial aid to former cricketer Jacob Martin, who was critically injured in a car accident. Similarly, the board has extended support to former players like Karsan Ghavri and Nari Contractor during their health crises. These actions reflect the BCCI’s dedication to taking care of its past heroes who have contributed significantly to Indian cricket.

Such benevolent gestures by the BCCI are heartwarming and reinforce the strong sense of community within the cricketing world. It is truly commendable to see the governing body of Indian cricket standing by its former players during their times of need, offering not just financial support but also emotional encouragement. These actions not only help the individuals concerned but also inspire current and future generations of cricketers by demonstrating that their contributions to the sport will always be valued and remembered.
