The UEFA Champions League (UCL) 2024/25 season has made its way. The newer format of the top-division European club football. This season the competition will be bigger and better with 36 teams participating in the tournament. The group stages home-away format has been removed. Instead, teams tussle in a partial reproduction of the Swiss model often seen in chess tournaments.
The top 8 after their 9 matches being played will qualify directly to the RO16 and the rest 9-24th will play against each other and join the rest 8. On Matchday 1 Bayern Munich hosted Croatian club GNK Dinamo Zagreb at the Allianz Arena. Munich under their new manager Vincent Kompany started well in their first game of the UCL. Harry Kane scored the first goal from the spot. The English striker scored 4 goals in the game with three penalties.
Dinamo Zagreb in the second half scored two in two minutes. They made the scoreline 3-2. However, Bayern continued their dominance and kept on scoring goals. The final result was 9-2 at the end of 90 minutes. Michael Olise scored a brace, along with Raphael Guerreiro, Leroy Sane, and Leon Goretzka scoring one goal each. This is one of the highest-scoring games in Champions League history.
Bayern Munich’s 9 goal questions competitive balance
Was this a fluke against Zagreb or Bayern Munich giving warning signs? Under Vincent Kompany started well in the season. They have been amazing so far. Kane’s brilliance is coming out more under the former Burnley manager. The striker has scored 7 goals in two games for the side. Bayern already giving warning signs to other teams that how they will play and score goals.
Especially this a very big sign for FC Barcelona who are next in the line to face them. Bayern previously won 8-2 against the Blaugranes under Hansi Flick. This season Flick will be on the opposite bench. Munich will look to continue their excellent record against Barca and beat them at the Spanish club’s home. Barca are yet to play their first game as they will face AS Monaco away from home in their first game.
