On the concluding day of the Asian Under-20 Athletics Championships, sprinter Lakshita Vinod Sandilia and hurdler Shriya Rajesh showcased stellar performances, securing silver and bronze medals respectively, adding to India’s medal tally.
With these latest achievements, India’s medal count in the championships has surged to 15, comprising five gold, six silver, and five bronze medals. The nation anticipates further success as the season progresses.
Shriya clinched the bronze medal in the women’s 400m hurdles, clocking an impressive time of 59.20 seconds, while Jaivindia Jegadish secured the sixth position with a timing of 1:02.06 seconds. Meanwhile, Lakshita, living up to her reputation, claimed the silver medal in the women’s 800m event, completing the race in 2:07.10 seconds.
In other events, Tanvi Malik secured the sixth position in the women’s 800m with a timing of 2:13.42 seconds, while Sachin finished fourth in the men’s 10,000m walk with a time of 45:50.56 seconds. However, Indian race walk athlete Himanshu faced disqualification.
Additionally, in the women’s discus throw event, Indian athletes Nadine and Anushka finished fifth (56.99m) and sixth (55.81m) respectively. Sabita Toppo (14.10 seconds) and Unnati Ayyappa Boland (13.72 seconds) both showcased commendable performances, advancing to the medal rounds in the women’s 100m hurdles. Moreover, the men’s 4x100m relay team demonstrated their prowess by securing second place with a time of 40.43 seconds, further bolstering India’s standing in the championships.
