Not long ago, in a podcast with “Unfiltered By Samdish,” the guest to be interviewed was Arshad Warsi and the actor made some unfiltered remarks on Bollywood. One was calling out Prabhas “Joker” in Kalki 2898 AD.
Throughout his Bollywood career, Arshad Warsi has had an impressive reputation for being on-point and candid. Assuming why the provocative social media community didn’t let it slide this time too. After the podcast came on air, Arshad Warsi was majorly criticized by the fans, especially the Telugu fans for their idol being called a joker. The remarks on Kalki were misconstrued by many as a personal comment on the actor and not just the movie itself. When in reality, it was just a movie review from an audience who watched it. The zealous fans of Bahubali took it so seriously that an official letter of reprimand was sent to Arshad Warsi’s association in Hindi cinema by the Telgu cinema fraternity. The actor wasn’t very impressed by the actor’s performance in Kalki, he commented to Prabhas, “I am really sad. He was like a joker. Why? I want to see a Mad Max. I want to see Mel Gibson over there. What have you made of it? Why do they do such things? I never understand.” while making some great remarks on Amitabh Bachchan. From this statement, what I gather, the fans are not getting furious over anything. The comments clearly state that Prabhas looked or acted like a joker in Kalki.
Recently an interaction with a reporter during IIFA, Arshad Warsi was asked about the “joker” remarks on Prabhas. The actor tried to clear the air of misassumption by saying “Everybody has their point of view and people like to interpret noise. I spoke about the character, not the person. He (Prabhas) is a brilliantin actor and he has proved himself again and again, and we know about it. And, when we give a bad character to a good actor, it’s heartbreaking for the audience.”
It seems to me that he’s trying to play it safe, trying to appease the audience and media, especially the fans of Telugu Cinema. If you’ve already made a statement, stand by it- there’s no need to retract it for personal convenience. As a public figure, it is crucial to stay true to your audience and maintain your authenticity.
Comment down if the actor actually meant it about the character or like many, he seemed to exhibit his double standards.
