The otherwise divided North London between Arsenal and Tottenham Hotspurs is set to be united for one night. Tottenham Hotspurs will be up against Manchester City in a game that could determine their rivals – Arsenal’s chances of winning the Premier League. A win for the Spurs will mean that the Gunners maintain their spot on the top of the table, while City’s win helps them inch closer to another Premier League crown.
Tottenham head to the game against City having lost four of their last five games. They have conceded 14 goals in this duration, pushing them out of the Champions League spot. Spurs are also at risk of losing the 5th place to either Newcastle or Chelsea as both these teams are only 6 points behind them with two games left to play. A win would not only be a favour for Arsenal but also for themselves as that could cement a Top 5 finish for them.
However, their opponents are a Manchester City team who are cruising their way since the start of 2024. Having kept their injury problems aside, the reigning champions have come out all guns blazing in the last two months. The Cityzens last dropped points in the PL during their 0-0 draw to Arsenal in March. Since then, they have won seven consecutive games and scored 28 goals during this time.
Arsenal will hope that City’s away struggles against Tottenham help them out
Arsenal will be counting on Tottenham’s home form against Manchester City to help them out on Tuesday. While the treble winners have been dominant against all their opponents, their struggles to secure wins at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium is well documented. The team haven’t defeated the North London side away in 2,023 days, which is shocking considering their dominance in the Premier League.
However, they were able to get a little bit of joy after their 1-0 FA Cup win at the Tottenham Stadium earlier this year. Pep Guardiola will be hoping to take inspiration from that victory to secure another win on the road against the Spurs. Playing without a lot of their key players, things are going to be difficult for the men in white, but they have a spot in the Champions League at stake.
A win against City would help them cut the deficit between them and Aston Villa to only two points. While Villa plays a difficult Crystal Palace team, Spurs will be up against a relegated Sheffield United side in their last game of the Premier League.
Even a loss for City would not guarantee the title to Arsenal as they will still need to win their final league game against Everton. While league position suggests it should be an easy win for the Gunners, playing Sean Dyche’s men in a title-deciding game is not going to be easy. Mikel Arteta will have to ensure that his team are well prepared to face Everton as a loss there would lead to any chance of them winning the PL to go away.
