Spain have had an imposing start to the European Championships. They’ve won two out of two and have shown immense determination and skill in winning both games. They breezed past Croatia in the first matchday and dominated Italy in the second. In an age gone by, people used to think of Spain as the team who passed it around till they could pass it in the goal. This Spain team is capable of that and much more. They’ve got the best midfielder in the world in Rodri. They’ve got a great front line comprising of Captain Alvaro Morata and a genius in Pedri. However, the true strength of this team lies in their direct wingers. Spain’s young guns are firing on full cylinders. Lamine Yamal and Nico Williams have looked unstoppable. One has to wonder, do Spain deserve to be deemed favorites for this edition of the Euros?
A New Era For Spain
Spain had an interesting qualification campaign, to say the least. They lost 2-0 to a surging Scotland team in Scotland. They came right back and thumped the Scots 4-0 in Madrid. Despite topping their group, they did not look convincing. Their play was sloppy and monotonous at times. It was passing the ball just for the sake of it. The new manager, Luis De La Fuente has breathed life into this team. They’re no longer reliant on just their possession play. This Spain team is not afraid to hit teams on the break. They’re not afraid to take on players and create their chances through sleek skill moves. It is the beginning of a new era for Spain.
Favorites Or Frauds?
”La Roja” were drawn into the group of death and they’ve made it out without a scratch. The knockouts await them. Spain is brimming with talent. Lamine Yamal, Nico Williams and Pedri have looked spectacular for the Spaniards. Furthermore, they do not lack in experience. Dani Carvajal and Rodri are experienced veterans who will guide the youngsters with immense expertise. Perhaps the only chink in Spain’s armor is their center-back pairing. Robin Le Normand is playing his first major international tournament and Aymeric Laporte has been practicing his trade in the desert of Saudi Arabia. A team with an explosive attack can challenge that defense. Spain has been bereft of a trophy for 12 years, will this finally be their time?
