Khelo India, once a mere competition, now stands as a people’s movement, with 11 successful editions in the past five years. The inaugural Khelo India Para Games promises not just competition but a jubilant celebration of courage and sportsmanship.
The games, set to unfold at Delhi’s prestigious sports venues, including Indira Gandhi Stadium, Karni Singh Shooting Range, and Jawahar Lal Nehru Stadium, will witness the participation of over 1400 players from 32 states and Union Territories. In its debut year, para athletics, shooting, archery, football, badminton, table tennis, and weightlifting will take center stage.
The games’ ethos, encapsulated in the theme ‘Flight of Courage’ and ‘Champions Beyond Limit,’ finds its spirited mascot in the sparrow named Ujjwala. The theme song, ‘Himmat Dikha, Takt Dikha, Kabhi Ruk Mat, Kabhi Jukh Mat, Chal Khel,’ was also unveiled, echoing the resilience and determination of Para athletes.
Thakur urged state governments to adapt sports facilities for para players and affirmed the government’s commitment to catapulting India into a sports superpower. Reflecting on India’s recent sports achievements, he envisioned the nation becoming a developed country and a sports superpower in the next 25 years.
