Defending champion Anirudhha Potawad retained his title with a brilliant performance in the 2nd All India FIDE Rapid Rating Open Chess Tournament held by Chembur Gymkhana at Crystal Community Hall, Z1 and Z2 halls.
Anirudhha scored 8.5 out of 9 marks and bagged the first position in the competition. Paras Bhoir and Arnav Koli got second and third rank respectively. International Master Sameer Khatmale scored 8 out of 9 points. IM Saumya Swaminathan scored 7 out of 9 marks in this competition.
The organizer of the tournament and Secretary of CG Chess Department Balkrishna Parab expressed his happiness at seeing the huge response received by the players. He also thanked all the concerned chess associations for giving the opportunity to Chembur Gymkhana to host the tournament. 609 players from all over India participated in this tournament, one of the largest in the central suburbs of India.
This marks a huge step in Indian Chess, especially for the 18-year-old Anirudhha Potawad. Currently, he is in the top 4500 in the world and holds the title of FM also known as Fide Master. According to Chess.com Anirudhha Potawad has an Elo rating of 2281 in Classical, 2033 in Rapid and 2008 in Blitz.
There was a total prize money of Rs 2 lakh in this competition. The tournament was successfully organized by the All India Chess Federation, Maharashtra Chess Association and Mumbai Suburban District Chess Association.
