In a notable recognition of officiating prowess, Amol Sonwane was bestowed with the prestigious ‘Best Referee’ award at the Namo Cup District Boxing Championship for his exceptional refereeing skills.
The Namo Chashak District Level Boxing Championship, held at Dapodi, Pune, was orchestrated under the patronage of MLA Umatai Girish Khapare, Pradeep dada Valunjkar Foundation, and Mercuri Foundation. Players hailing from Pune district, Pune city, and Pimpri Chinchwad actively participated, elevating the competition’s intensity.
Amol Sonwane’s remarkable refereeing throughout the tournament earned him accolades from Bharat Kumar Vhaval, Vice President of Maharashtra Boxing Association and General Secretary of Pune District Boxing Association. The ‘Best Referee’ award was a testament to Sonwane’s dedication and expertise in overseeing the matches.
The distinguished gathering at the event included Raghunath Khedekar (President, Pimpri Chinchwad City Boxing Association), Vijay Yadav (Shiv Chhatrapati Award Winner and Secretary, Pimpri Chinchwad City Boxing Association), Manohar Ingwale (Vice President, Pimpri Chinchwad City Boxing Association), Vishal Valunjkar (Tournament Organizer), Vijay Gujar (International Boxing Coach), and other notable figures from the Maharashtra Police Force.
Khushal Valanjkar, Suresh Gaikwad, Ashok Memzade, Jeevanlal Nindane, among others, received honors during the ceremony. The program, skillfully moderated by National Umpire Rishikant Vachkal, showcased a blend of recognition and celebration within the boxing community.
While Amol Sonwane’s award is well-deserved, critics argue that officiating in sports often goes unnoticed, with referees facing immense pressure and scrutiny.
