Akanksha Kadam of Ratnagiri won the women’s singles in the third state ranking carrom competition. The competition was organized by Chembur Gymkhana and sponsored by Utkarsh Small Finance Bank. Muhammad Ghufran won the men’s category. In the final Kadam eased past Mumbai’s Rinki Kumari to win the title. Ghufran made an excellent comeback to win the title after down in the first two games.
Gunjan Singh Head of Mumbai Cluster 1, Utkarsh Small Finance Bank started with a coin toss. The latter sealed his victory by winning the next two sets 25-11 and 25-15 after losing the first set 11-25 against Vikas Dharia of Mumbai. Vikas Dharia easily defeated Mumbai’s Amol Sawardekar before entering the men’s final. While Ghufran defeated former world champion Prashant More of Mumbai after a bitter fight. In the women’s category, Akanksha defeated Mumbai’s Neelam Ghodka in three sets in the semi-final.
Balkrishna Wadhawan felicitates the winners
While Rinkee easily defeated veteran national champion Sangeeta Chandorkar before reaching the final round. All the athletes were felicitated with cash prizes and trophies by the Chembur Gymkhana President. Secretary of Carrom and Chess Department Balkrishna Parab coordinated the tournament. Maharashtra Carrom Association Vice President Yatin Thakur, Honorary Secretary Arun Kedar, Treasurer Ajit Sawant, Joint Secretary Ketan Chikhale, Mumbai Suburban District Association Working President Santosh Chavan were present on this occasion.
