Indian shooter Abhinav Bindra has been honored with the Olympic Order by the International Olympic Committee (IOC) for his outstanding contribution to the Olympic movement. The award ceremony will be held during the 142nd IOC session in Paris on August 10, a day before the conclusion of the Olympics. It is the highest award of the IOC.
This award is given for outstanding contribution to the Olympic Movement. The award is given to honor an individual who has reflected the Olympic ideal through his actions. He has achieved outstanding achievements in the world of sport. Bindra has distinguished himself through personal achievement for the Olympics or his contribution to the development of sport. Its nomination is proposed by the Council of the Olympic Order and decided upon by the Executive Board.
Abhinav Bindra is a legend of the game
IOC President Thomas Bach wrote a letter to Abhinav Bindra and informed him about this. He said, “I am very pleased to inform you that the IOC Executive Board has decided to award you the Olympic Order for your outstanding services to the Olympic Movement.”
Sports Minister Mansukh Mandaviya also congratulated Abhinav Bindra for being honoured with the Olympic Order. He wrote about inspiring many generations. Abhinav Bindra, 41, won India’s first individual Olympic gold medal in the men’s 10m air rifle event at the 2008 Beijing Games.
Bindra was a member of the Athlete Committee of the International Shooting Sport Federation from 2010 to 2020. Since 2014, he has been working as the president. He has been a member of the IOC Athletes Commission since 2018.
