Indian shooter and Olympic individual gold medalist Abhinav Bindra was awarded the prestigious Olympic Order in Paris. Abhinav Bindra was honored in the 142nd session of the International Olympic Committee. The Olympic Order is the highest honor bestowed by the International Olympic Committee (IOC).
Before Abhinav Bindra, former Prime Minister of India Indira Gandhi also received this honour. The award is given to individuals who have made outstanding contributions to the Olympic Games. The veteran shooter won India’s first individual Olympic gold medal by winning the men’s 10m air rifle event at the 2008 Beijing Games.

Bindra was a member of the Athlete Committee of the International Shooting Sport Federation from 2010 to 2020. Since 2014, Abhinav Bindra has been working as the President. He has been a member of the IOC Athletes Commission since 2018. The Olympic Order is the IOC‘s highest award, given for distinguished contributions to the Olympic Movement.
The award is given to honor an individual who has reflected the Olympic ideal through his actions, has achieved outstanding achievements in the world of sport, or has distinguished himself through personal achievement for the Olympics or his contribution to the development of sport. Its nomination is proposed by the Council of the Olympic Order and decided upon by the Executive Board.
