Bronny James opened up on the pressure that came with being LeBron James’ son. The 17-year-old participated in the NBA Draft combine and grabbed a lot of headlines. Many reports came out suggesting that he did not have what it takes to be in the NBA, while some scouts showed interest in his abilities during the combine.
Having recovered from a cardiac arrest just a few months ago, Bronny James was given the clearance to participate in the Combine just a day or two before its commencement. He did not have a great NCAA tournament with the USC Trojans and needed to put on a great performance at the Draft Combine. In one of the scrimmage games, James Jr. scored 13 points and won the best player honours, but overall reports from the scouts suggest that he could be a late first or second-round pick.
Speaking to Sirius XM NBA Radio about the problems that come with being LeBron James’ son, Bronny said, “It’s tough, “A lot of criticism gets thrown my way. But you know, I’ve got to deal with it. We all know what I’ve been through. I just try to make the best of my opportunities that are given to me.”
Will Bronny James be drafted in the 2024 Draft?
Bronny James was able to grab a few eyeballs in the Combine as he improved his prospects of getting drafted according to a few scouts. Before the combine, he was ranked 98 on ESPN’s list of the Top 100 NBA Draft prospects but has since climbed to 54, which shows significant improvement.
James averaged just 4.8 PPG, 2.8 rebounds and 2.1 assists in 19.4 minutes per game. These are underwhelming numbers, but the fact that he returned from a cardiac arrest needs to be remembered. His journey so far has not been as people would expect as coming from a cardiac arrest as quickly as he did and still managing to play decent minutes in college is a great feat.
Although he is not as prominent a name as his dad, Bronny James is proving to be a different player. He is a terrific defender and his shooting is also constantly improving. According to a few scouts, he could be a great role player in the league. Over the years, the importance of role players has grown and this gives Bronny the advantage when it comes to getting drafted.
