The Premier League after many many years is looking like the toughest football league in the world again. And while it is mostly because of Manchester City’s downfall, it’s also because of other clubs finding their footing yet again with many new surprises. While the story of one club comfortably leading the title charge hasn’t changed, that being Liverpool for a change, many somewhat small clubs have taken up the mantle of Spurs and Manchester United who are struggling to get into the top half of the table. Amidst all this, the top 4 battle is proving to be utterly fantastic. After a hiatus of 2 whole seasons for contention of the top 4, Chelsea is back in the race for a place in the UEFA Champions League next season.
Currently 4th in the Premier League table with 40 points to their name, the Londoners will be taking on 5th placed Manchester City in an all-important clash in the Premier League which may well decide which team finds a place in the UCL next season. But Chelsea and Manchester City are not the only teams for whom this clash is crucial, it’s also crucial for all the other teams who are currently in contention for a top 4 Premier League finish. The beauty of this league is such that there are a total of 3 other teams currently and many more have the opportunity to be in contention for a top 4 finish. Teams like Newcastle, Brighton, Aston Villa and even Bournemouth.
The Etihad Stadium will be welcoming their team after an embarrassing string of results including the most recent 4-2 loss against PSG in the Champions League which puts Man City in danger of being eliminated from Europe’s Premier competition if they don’t get a win in their next game. In Paris, Pep Guardiola’s men bottled a 2-0 lead, a trend which has been around for some time in the ManCity camp. Their 6-0 win against Ipswich was nothing short of a fluke it seems and as they get ready to take on Enzo Maresca’s Blues there is an atmosphere of disdain and fear in Manchester.
Cole Palmer and Enzo Maresca, two of ManCity’s former acquaintances will be licking their lips to find a way and thrash ManCity in their weakest phase at the Etihad. Chelsea have also been somewhat struggling with their form but it just seems as if the stars have aligned for Chelsea to deliver a drubbing tonight in Manchester.
