The teams for the Champions Trophy 2025 and the forthcoming white-ball series against England have been revealed by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI). Teams may make changes until February 13 but must submit their tentative squads by February 12. The Indian Express said that both squads are expected to be selected today by the BCCI selection committee. It is led by Ajit Agarkar.
There will probably be a lot of difficult decisions made about the selection of the team following India’s disastrous performance in the just-finished five-match Test series against Australia, where they lost 1-3. There will probably be some audacious calls made. Dubai International Cricket Stadium will host India’s matches in the prestigious ICC competition. After eight years, the eight-team ICC event is returning, and the squad selection deadline is January 12.
Probably, Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, Shubman Gill, and KL Rahul will be selected for the Champions Trophy. India’s last victory came in 2013 when they defeated England in the Edgbaston final. However, there are concerns regarding the choice of spinner Kuldeep Yadav and top bowler Jasprit Bumrah. Bumrah will report to the NCA in the next few days due to a back spasm.
Siraj Misses Out Despite Stellar Performances
He will be considered for selection only after receiving approval from the medical team. However, since October 2024, Kuldeep has not been active. He has not participated in any competitive matches since undergoing surgery in November. Mohammed Shami has been sidelined due to a groin injury since his last appearance for India in the ODI World Cup 2023 final. The 34-year-old pacer is expected to return to the national team.
There has been some shocking removal in the ODI team and the Champions Trophy as well. The five-match T20I series against England, which begins in Kolkata on January 22, is unlikely to include Indian players who participated in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy; nonetheless, the ODI roster will largely mirror the Champions Trophy lineup.
Here’s the team for the England ODI series and ICC Champions Trophy
