Harry Maguire’s Scandals Highlight The Perils Of Fame and Recklessness

Manchester United’s struggles do not continue on the field. Now it has stretched to off-field incidents as well. The team’s star defender, Harry Maguire has been banned from driving for 56 days. After his £200,000 SV supercar was clocked doing 85mph in a 50mph zone close to Manchester Airport. The center back has been slapped with a fine worth over £1,000. 

He was caught speeding twice in just three days. It is not the first time that the Red Devils defender has been caught. Previously on March 5 of last year, two days after his struggling team’s 3-1 Premier League loss to hometown rivals Manchester City. The 31-year-old was captured on camera by a mobile speed camera. However, Maguire was caught speeding once more that week on March 7. 

Harry Maguire was seen travelling at 68 mph in a 60 mph zone on the A616 close to Sheffield. His hometown. He was booked both times while operating the 8-speed automatic car. It has a top speed of 150 mph and can go from 0 to 60 mph in 5.8 seconds. At Sheffield Magistrates Court in September, he was given three points on his license. 

Manchester United’s Captain in Trouble Again

He was ordered to pay more than £1,000 for the March 7 speeding incident. If magistrates had chosen to impose the maximum six-point penalty on Maguire for his most recent driving offense, he would have been forced to give up his license for six months. Harry Maguire already had three points on his license. Gwyn Lewis, appeared on his behalf to respond to the accusations and urged the magistrates for their mercy.

Lewis said, “He was offered a speed awareness course but unfortunately because he was away from this country in the summer he wasn’t able to take up the course.” Chairman of the bench Mark Hardman said: “We are prepared to exercise our discretion due to Mr Maguire being out of the country and not being able to take part in his speeding course.”
