Brazil’s top striker Neymar has expressed a wish to regroup with his good mates Lionel Messi and Luis Suarez in the future. The three South American greats created one of FC Barcelona’s most destructive attacking trios, winning the treble together in 2014-15. In 2017, Neymar left Barcelona for Paris St Germain for a record-breaking 222 million euros ($230.39 million). Neymar did have the opportunity to play with Messi again at PSG.
The latter was there for a few seasons, but in 2023, they parted ways, with the Argentine moving to MLS and currently playing for Inter Miami, and the Brazilian joining Al-Hilal. Suarez also joined Messi at Inter Miami last season, as the MLS club experienced a Barcelona-style reunion with four former top players. Jordi Alba and Sergio Busquets are the other two former Barcelona players who presently play for Miami.
Neymar is looking forward to a potential MSN reunion in the future, as the trio maintains a strong friendship and the trio was one of the deadliest in the world football. The Messi, Neymar, and Suarez stats read 364 goals and 173 assists for Barcelona in 450 games between 2014 to 2017. Suarez and Messi have already had remarkable success together since their reunion.
Neymar Prioritizing Sentiment Over Success
During the 2024 season, the Argentine superstar scored 36 goals in 25 appearances for Miami, while his colleague scored 37 goals in 37 games, and the club finished first in the MLS Eastern Conference. Neymar has only appeared seven times for Al-Hilal since joining from PSG for a rumoured fee of 90 million euros in 2023, with injuries keeping the Brazilian out for extended periods.
His contract expires in June, and there is widespread anticipation that the club may split company with him. The 32-year-old said, “Obviously, playing again with Messi and Suarez would be incredible. They are my friends. We still speak to each other. It would be interesting to revive this trio. I’m happy at Al-Hilal, and I’m happy in Saudi Arabia, but who knows? Football is full of surprises.”
