Australian Open Finalist Will Defy All Odds, ft. Elena Rybakina

In a video posted by the WTA, several top players were asked to give predictions about 2025. In the video, Aryna Sabalenka makes bold predictions for the year alongside Elena Rybakina and Iga Swiatek. Sabalenka and Rybakina played off in the 2023 Australian Open final. The match was intense, with the former winning after dropping the first set (4-6, 6-3, 6-4). The 2023 Australian Open was her maiden Grand Slam victory. 

Following her initial success, Sabalenka won two Grand Slams in 2024 and holds the World No. 1 ranking. At the 2025 Australian Open, the 26-year-old hopes to win her third victory. Sabalenka lost her last participation against Swiatek 6-2, 6-3 at the Qatar Open in 2022. The Pole won the event, becoming the third consecutive winner in Doha. Swiatek won the title in 2024, defeating Rybakina in the final 7-6 (8), 6-2.

Aryna Sabalenka advanced to the final of the Brisbane International, defeating Mirra Andreeva in the semi-finals with a score of 6-3, 6-2. The Belarusian defeated the promising kid and now faces Polina Kudermetova on Sunday, January 5. Iga Swiatek advanced her side to the United Cup final. She defeated Elena Rybakina in the semifinals with a score of 7-6(5), 6-4. Swiatek recovered from a slow start to defeat Rybakina. 

Aryna Sabalenka will retain her Grand Slam

On Sunday, January 5, the Polish will compete in the final against Coco Gauff from the USA. Tennis fans can look forward to an entertaining day as top players like Sabalenka, Swiatek, and Gauff compete for trophies and momentum ahead of the Australian Open.

Aryna Sabalenka said, “I will just say what I want to see, I want to see me against Elena (Elena Rybakina) once again. Later in the video, she was also asked, ” Who will win the first WTA 1000 of 2025 in Doha?” she replied, “If I am not playing (chuckles), I would give it to Iga (Iga Swiatek).
