If you think the Indian Cinema is just capable of giving us some cute-cheesy love stories with a hell of a drama, then you must be living under a rock. The best thing that happened to Indian cinema was “OTT”. Yes, because of the OTT platform, we saw the depth of cinema which was never seen before. Well, we’re not here to talk about the greatness of OTT, but a series that took me by heart. I might be a little late to talk about this but let’s say the Amazon Prime series “Bandish Bandits” understood the assignment and how to keep it real.
I don’t intend to go off-beat here by praising season two of “Bandish Bandits” as people haven’t been saying so many nice things about the movie, which is unfair. I personally loved the series. I don’t see a reason why others didn’t. I mean why are we so fond of just seeing love stories and action and drama? There’s more to the Indian Cinema than just this. I read hundreds of comments from people saying that season two of Bandish Bandits lacked a storyline, they didn’t focus on the plot and should’ve put more thoughts on the “Tamanna-Radhe” love story. But why?
One thing they surely focused on was the core concept of the series. Yes, the music in the second season was the show’s real star. It dives into the clash between old-school classical music and the flashier, loud pop world. And it’s not as if the series asked us to pick sides, instead, it showed how the two different sides of music can come together and vibe, creating something more beautiful. The blend of classical and modern music is a chef’s kiss. I cannot shut up about the iconic music of this season. People who fell in love with the first season for its music, should not worry cause the sequel of the season equally slayed- a full-on Vibe check. I know people have been complaining about the unfinished business between the leads- Tamanna and Radhe but that’s the beauty of the series.
From the very beginning, the show has been all about the music and never the drama, even though it doesn’t lack the drama to keep us hooked. And special mention to the last performance scene by the “Royalty Band” of the show. It was surreal to see such a real performance in a show. People who love drama are completely right to complain about the absence of romance and chaos, cause there was. But to make a sequel as hard as the first part is the toughest task for Indian directors. Proving it wrong Anand Tiwari did an exceptional job and so did the actors Ritwik Bhowmik and Shreya Chaudhry. What makes me fall for the series even more is the fact that every character had a part in the story and they played it so well. Let’s hope season three of the series tops the last one like this did.
