Haveli Taluka Badminton Association hosts the prestigious tournament at PYC Hindu Gymkhana from January 7 to 14.
The Amanora-PYC HTBA Cup Badminton Championship, organized by Haveli Taluka Badminton Association, is set to kick off its 14th edition in Pune from January 7 to 14. The tournament, hosted at the badminton court of PYC Hindu Gymkhana, is co-sponsored by City Corporation and corporate athletes, with equipment sponsorship from Yonex Sunrise. The PDMBA President Anirudh Deshpande inaugurated the event.
Abhijit Chandgude, Joint Secretary, and Sarang Lagoo, Secretary of PYC Hindu Gymkhana, announced that the competition will feature singles and doubles groups for boys and girls across various age categories, including 11, 13, 15, 17, and 19 years. Additionally, there will be intense competitions in men’s and women’s singles, doubles, and mixed doubles, catering to age groups above 35, 40, 45, 50, 55, and 60 years.
A substantial prize pool of Rs 3 lakh awaits the participants, and the standout player will be honored with a scholarship worth Rs 50 thousand. Notably, the organizers have previously awarded 12 such scholarships, and recipients have excelled in both national and international competitions.
Critics argue that while these tournaments offer valuable exposure, there’s a need for increased investment to foster badminton talent on a broader scale.
