Just a few days after their triumph in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy, Mumbai announced their 17-man complete squad for the first three rounds of the upcoming 50-over Vijay Hazare Trophy in the domestic cricketing season. But what stood out more than the inclusions in the squad was the exclusion of a certain Prithvi Shaw. A man once being heralded as the next Sachin Tendulkar. And it seems as if the downfall of the now 25-year-old Prithvi Shaw will still continue.
During the IPL 2025 Mega Auction, Prithvi Shaw went unsold with Delhi Capitals not even using the opportunity available to them and getting back a quality opener for cheap. This went to show how much the Mumbai youngster’s value has dropped. This was followed by measly performances during the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy where Prithvi Shaw made just 197 runs in 9 innings and was unable to score even a single half-century with his highest score of 49 in the tournament coming against Vidarbha in the Quarterfinals.
And just when you thought it couldn’t get any worse for Prithvi Shaw, he was excluded from Mumbai’s Vijay Hazare Trophy squad. Following this, the Indian batter posted a message to his fans on Social Media. Prithvi Shaw wrote on his Instagram story showing his List-A stats, stating, “Tell me god, what more do I have to see…if 65 innings, 3399 runs at an average of 55.7 with a strike rate of 126, I’m not good enough…but I will keep my faith in you and hopefully, people believe in me still…cause I will come back for sure. Om Sai Ram”
It will be a long way back for the youngster who is still in his mid-twenties, but even Shreyas Iyer, Mumbai’s domestic captain believes that Prithvi Shaw needs to work on his work ethic further saying, “If he does that, the sky is the limit for him.”
Prithvi Shaw has surely hit rock bottom now. Do you think he will be able to turn his situation around? Let us know your opinion in the comments below.
