World No. 2 Iga Swiatek is another dope cheat who has done enormous damage to the global tennis image. She was suspended until December 2, 2024, after testing positive for Trimetazidine, a banned performance-enhancing drug. Following Jannik Sinner, she is the second high-profile tennis player to test positive this year. Meanwhile, Sinner, the top-rated man, was cleared. Swiatek moved from first to second place last month.
She accepted a one-month suspension. Swiatek recently won the Billie Jean King Cup for Poland. She won her first trophy of the year, defeating Elena Rybakina in the WTA 1000 tournament final. The Polish won her second title of 2024 at the WTA 1000 Indian Wells Open, beating Maria Sakkari in the final. Swiatek dominated the clay court swing, winning 19 wins. Iga Swiatek’s urine included trace quantities of trimetazidine.
Iga Swiatek, World No. 2, is enjoying her offseason break in Poland. Recently, she posted a photo of herself having pierogi with her psychologist, Daria Abramowicz, and coach, Wim Fissette. Fissette, a five-time Major champion, shared a video of her reaction after sampling the dumpling-shaped Polish meal. She captioned it. The Belgian coach re-posted Swiatek’s account, revealing his favourable reaction after sampling the dish.
Wim Fissette Focused on Tourism
Fissette replaced Swiatek’s previous coach, Tomasz Wiktorowski. At the same time, Naomi Osaka broke her partnership with Fissette, allowing the two to collaborate. Fissette has a close bond with his family. His wife shared a sweet Instagram photo of their two sons preparing for Christmas. The shot of the lads posed in reindeer-patterned clothes captures the holiday spirit nicely. The Belgian coach also defended Swiatek amid the doping scandal.
Wim Fissette defended the former World No. 1 by noting that those who read the documentation understand the situation. He said, “There will always be people who will be negative, but I think that anyone who has read all the documents that Iga has provided and shown to the whole world, sees what happened. And should understand that it was just bad luck. It can happen to any player.”
