Reece McLaren, a veteran Australian boxer, defeated American Jarred Brooks in a hard-fought decision last week. He did, however, make several efforts to end the fight, including a nifty D’Arce choke. It occurred late in the third and final round of their flyweight MMA fight at ONE Fight Night 26: Lee vs. Rasulov on December 6 at the Lumpinee Stadium in Bangkok, Thailand.
Following a heated back-and-forth in the first two and a half rounds of their three-rounder. ‘Lightning’ found himself in a position to execute a D’Arce choke on his already-blooded opponent and went for it, almost finishing the fight. Brooks’ break from the stranglehold proved crucial in McLaren’s narrow decision triumph. McLaren’s win at ONE Fight Night 26 was his second straight, following a split decision victory over Hu Yong of China in May.
This increased his prospects of competing for the ONE flyweight Muay Thai world title, which is presently vacant. Brooks, the interim strawweight MMA world champion, failed to compete successfully in his maiden flyweight fight. He has a 5-3 record since joining ONE Championship in November 2021. Despite losing to Reece McLaren at ONE Fight Night 26, Jarred Brooks is undeterred and hopes to fight ‘Lightning’ again in the future.
Referee Let McLaren Go Too Far
While moving up a weight class from his customary strawweight division. Despite losing by a split decision, ‘The Monkey God’ performed admirably against a more powerful opponent. Brooks fought for the flyweight world title and attempted to become a double champion.
