East Bengal FC Finally Delivering On Their Potential

East Bengal continue their winning run in the Indian Super League (ISL) 2024/25 season. The Red and Gold Brigade found their first win in the match against form NorthEast United FC. Oscar Bruzon’s side won their first away game on Saturday. Chennaiyin FC who had a decent start were completely outplayed with a second-half tactical masterclass from Bruzon. They registered their third consecutive clean sheet.

They brushed aside Chennaiyin FC 2-0 at the Jawaharlal Nehru Indoor Stadium in Chennai. After CFC squandered good goal-scoring opportunities in the first half, with Daniel Chima being the primary culprit, East Bengal punished them by moving ahead in the second half, and Marina Machans‘ sloppiness cost them another goal, securing East Bengal’s three points. Owen Coyle and his team suffered their third consecutive loss.

P.V. Vishnu and Jeakson Singh scored for the Red and Gold Brigade, which won its second match in a row and maintained its fourth clean sheet in the past five games. The Red and Gold Brigade showed more urgency in its intent in the first few minutes, as seen by Dimitrios Diamantakos’ fast long balls over the top. However, the passes lacked precision, with the majority going out of play.

A New Contender Emerges

Coyle’s plan to isolate Diamantakos was executed perfectly by the Chennaiyin backline, captained by captain Ryan Edwards. But fortunately or tactically Bruzon changed the Greek striker with Cleiton Silva and the trick worked. The home side was wide open in the middle of the park, leading to the creation and distribution of the balls in the wings for Oscar’s side. This led to the first goal for them.

Mahesh Naorem Singh with the delightful ariel through towards Saul Crespo who went unmarked from behind and squared it up to Vishnu who broke the deadlock coming right from behind. East Bengal scored its second goal in the 84th minute, ending the game. Nandhakumar carried the ball a long distance until a deflected ball found Jeakson, who was just outside the area. He took a long-range shot and scored to secure the game.
